Mother and child taken to hospital after being struck by vehicle

Two people, including a child, were taken to hospital after being struck by a vehicle shortly after midnight.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Carpasian Road and Long Pond Road at about 1:00 a.m. Sunday morning. Reports from the scene indicate a family of four were returning from a New Year’s social gathering when two of the pedestrians were struck by a passing vehicle as they crossed the road. Both individuals, a mother and child, were taken to hospital with injuries believed to be minor in nature.

One hospitalized following two incidents in which pedestrians were struck

Emergency crews were kept busy Sunday evening responding to two separate collisions in which a pedestrian was struck.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m. crews responded to Anderson Avenue near Guy Street after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle. The individual was assessed by paramedics at the scene, however they did not require transport to hospital. A shopping cart full of recyclables they had been rolling was also struck, causing bottles and cans to be strewn along the road. Police were forced to close a portion of the street until the broken glass and other debris could be removed.

A second collision occurred at the intersection of Torbay Road and Newfoundland Drive at about 7:00 p.m.. A pedestrian who was crossing the road was struck by a car, leaving them lying in the road until first responders arrived. The individual was taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening. Traffic was slowed as personnel worked at the scene.

In both instances, roads were wet in the falling rain, and visibility was reduced.

Pedestrian suffers reported minor injuries after being struck on busy downtown road

A pedestrian was taken to hospital Thursday evening after being struck on a busy downtown road.

Shortly before 7:30 p.m. emergency crews were called to the west end of Water Street following a motor-vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. The individual was struck by an eastbound vehicle, and suffered what were described as minor injuries.

The incident is the latest in a recent string of such collisions in the metro area. A day earlier a pedestrian was struck on Queen’s Road, leaving them with serious, but non life-threatening injuries.

Pedestrian struck, taken to hospital, following mid-afternoon collision

A pedestrian was taken to hospital Wednesday afternoon following the latest in a string of recent vehicle-pedestrian collisions in the metro region.

Emergency crews were called to Queen’s Road at Victoria Street at about 2:00 p.m. following a collision involving a pedestrian and a westbound vehicle. The force of the collision caused damage to the hood and windshield of the vehicle, and left the pedestrian laying in the road a short distance away.

Paramedics took the individual to hospital with injuries described as non life-threatening. Queen’s Road was closed for over an hour as the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary investigated.

Two sent to hospital following night-time collisions

Two people were taken to hospital following two separate incidents on the roads in St. John’s on Saturday night.

At about 10:30 p.m. emergency crews responded to a collision on Elizabeth Avenue at Paton Street. The driver of an eastbound vehicle struck a pedestrian who was crossing the road near the intersection. The pedestrian was taken to hospital with injuries that were described as non life-threatening. The force of the collision caused damage to the front end of the car and to its windshield.

Around midnight crews were summoned to the Outer Ring Road following a single-vehicle crash. The driver of an eastbound vehicle lost control of their car near the Aberdeen Avenue exit. The car entered the ditch and struck a mound of rocks, causing significant damage to the vehicle. The driver was taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be serious. Roads were wet in heavy wind and rain at the time of the crash.

Pedestrian taken to hospital following collision on Topsail Road

A pedestrian was taken to hospital after being struck by a vehicle on Topsail Road in Mount Pearl Tuesday night.

Emergency crews responded to the scene, near the Kenmount Road overpass, shortly after 10:15 p.m.. The individual was struck by a westbound car, which could be seen stopped several metres from the scene. Paramedics tended to the injured pedestrian, taking them to hospital with injuries not believed to be serious in nature.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary were on scene to investigate the collision. Roads were dark and wet in moderate rain at the time of the incident.
