Four busloads of Newfoundland and Labrador’s best arrived at the athletes’ village Friday, a day before the opening ceremonies for the Canada Summer Games. The ceremonies will be streamed live on NTV+.

The first athletes arrived in St. John’s bright and early for the Canada Summer Games. Team Alberta was the first to land at St. John’s International Airport.

The games bring together over 5,000 athletes, managers, and coaches across 19 different sports. It’s Day 4 of the wildfire evacuations and more people are being forced to leave their homes in Conception Bay North. The news comes after Ottawa has approved military assistance to help fight the fires. NTV’s Bailey Howard reports from Carbonear.

Within the next 24 hours, the province will be increasing the minimum fine for setting an illegal fire to $50 thousand dollars. As NTV’s Beth Penney tells us, this comes as more communities face evacuation orders, due to raging wildfires.
