Updated: Single-vehicle crash sends one to hospital, closes portion of ORR

A portion of the Outer Ring Road was closed for a time on Monday following a single-vehicle crash.

Emergency crews were called to the scene, in the westbound lanes of the highway between Thorburn Road and Topsail Road, at about 4:00 p.m.. The driver of a westbound sedan had lost control, with the car going into the ditch on the side of the road. The vehicle then rolled over and came back out of the ditch, coming to rest in the lanes of travel.

The driver of the car was taken to hospital with injuries that were described as non life-threatening. The vehicle sustained extensive damage. The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary closed the westbound lanes of the highway as they conducted their investigation.

A single-vehicle crash is slowing traffic on the Outer Ring Road at this hour.

Crews were called to the scene, in the westbound lanes between Thorburn and Topsail Roads, at about 4:00. One person has been sent to hospital with what were described as non life-threatening injuries.

The westbound lanes of the highway are currently closed at Thorburn Road, and are expected to remain closed until around 7:00 p.m..

Single-vehicle rollover sends one to hospital

A single-vehicle crash on the Outer Ring Road Wednesday evening sent one person to hospital with minor injuries.

Emergency crews responded to the scene at about 9:45 p.m.. The driver of an eastbound vehicle lost control and left the highway a short distance from the on-ramp from Team Gushue Highway. The car struck a sign post and rolled over in the ditch, coming to a rest on its roof.

Firefighters and paramedics helped the driver from the vehicle and to a waiting ambulance, where they were assessed before being taken to hospital with what were believed to be minor injuries.

Firefighters wrapped yellow tape around the car, a common practice used to tell motorists there is no one inside the vehicle and emergency services are aware of its presence.

Roads were wet and visibility was reduced at the time of the crash.

Driver escapes injury after car leaves road

The driver of a car was lucky to have escaped injury after the car they were driving left the road Wednesday evening.

Emergency crews were called to the eastbound lanes of the Outer Ring Road, at Exit 50, shortly before 6:00 p.m.. The driver of a car lost control of the vehicle, striking a snowbank at the side of the road. The car narrowly missed colliding with a sign post indicating the exit to Logy Bay Road. The vehicle’s mirror made contact with the post, while the car continued along the embankment.

The vehicle came to rest a fair distance away, and showed signs of moderate damage. The driver of the car was uninjured in the ordeal.

Three sent to hospital after moose is struck by three vehicles

Three people were taken to hospital after a moose was struck by three separate vehicles on the Outer Ring Road on Monday evening.

Emergency crews were called to the highway at about 7:15 p.m.. The driver of a pickup truck traveling east between Allandale Road and Portugal Cove Road struck and killed a moose that was crossing the highway. The vehicle suffered moderate damage. The truck’s occupants were not injured.

The moose was then struck by two following vehicles, one of which came to rest in the oncoming lanes of the highway after crossing the median. Paramedics assessed the occupants of all vehicles, taking three to hospital with injuries not believed to be serious.

Traffic was reduced to one lane in each direction as emergency crews worked, and as the deceased animal and damaged vehicles were removed from the scene. Roads were wet in heavy drizzle at the time of the incident.

Moose-vehicle collision sends two to hospital, kills moose

A moose was killed after being struck by an SUV Wednesday evening.

Emergency crews were called to the scene of the collision, which occurred in the eastbound lanes of the Outer Ring Road, at about 7:30 p.m.. The driver of an SUV was unable to avoid the animal, which wandered onto the roadway between Allandale Road and Portugal Cove Road.

The force of the collision killed the animal and caused considerable damage to the vehicle. Two occupants of the SUV were assessed at the scene by paramedics and taken to hospital with what were believed to be minor injuries.

Debris from the crash was strewn along the roadway, prompting police to close one lane for some time as the scene was cleared and the animal removed.
