First snow day of the school year for many
With significant snowfall, high winds, and slushy conditions anticipated for much of eastern and central Newfoundland, residents are preparing for messy weather. Marine Atlantic has cancelled crossings, some municipalities, including the City of St. John’s, have postponed garbage collection, and many schools are closed.
Memorial University, the Marine Institute and MUN’s Signal Hill campuses are also closed. Also, provincial government offices in St. John’s are closed for the morning.
There are over 100 school closures this morning, including all schools in the metro region, which will remain closed all day. A small number of schools have announced they will be closed for the morning, with an update to come later. You can check the status of your child’s school here.
