Metro area schools closed for day because of snow

Schools in the metro area are closed for the day because of snow.

Memorial University and College of the North Atlantic campuses from central to the east coast are closed for the morning with updates to come later. Provincial government offices in the metro region have also been closed, except for those employees who have been advised to come to work.

Chief Meteorologist Eddie Sheerr says the snow may end by 10 a.m.

Metro area schools, post-secondary institutes closed because of deteriorating weather

Schools in the metro region are closed for the day on Wednesday due to inclement weather expected in the region.

Memorial University closed its St. John’s campus at 12:30 p.m. because of deteriorating weather. The College of the North Atlantic has also closed its campuses in eastern Newfoundland.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning with total amounts of 15 to 20 cm expected on the eastern Avalon from this morning to this evening.

Metro-area schools are closed for the rest of the day as a winter storm continues to lash eastern Newfoundland.

Memorial University’s St. John’s campus is reopening at 1 p.m. Some College of the North Atlantic campuses from Gander eastward are reopening this afternoon, while others are staying closed for the day.

The last round of snow is expected to end late Wednesday morning.

It was a day of closures and cancellations today as a winter storm hit eastern Newfoundland.

Schools in the metro-area are closed for the day Tuesday as a winter storm hits the east coast.

A Winter Storm Warning is now in effect from Gander to the Avalon and as far west as Connaigre. Blowing Snow Advisories are up from the Bay of Exploits southwest to Channel-Port aux Basques.

The Avalon will see the snow ease off for a bit later and mix with ice pellets at times before going back to snow this evening.
