Bursey’s Bus Services is about to launch of KAYLA CARES, a new Free Inclusive Field Trip Transportation Program designed to support students who require specialized or accessible transportation in the Avalon West portion of the island. A total of 65 schools will be eligible to participate. An announcement is set for Thursday at Queen Elizabeth High School in Conception Bay South.

The program represents a significant community investment by Bursey’s Bus Services, valued at 50,000 dollars per year for five years, totaling 250,000 dollars dedicated to supporting accessible student transportation.

KAYLA CARES is named in loving memory of Kayla Bursey, sister of company owner Evan Bursey. Kayla was born with significant medical needs and would have required wheelchair access throughout her life. Although her time was short, her memory continues to inspire compassion, inclusion, and support for children who rely on accessible services. KAYLA CARES is a tribute to her legacy and a commitment to ensuring all students can participate fully in school experiences.

Through this initiative, every school in the Avalon West region will receive two free accessible field trip buses per school year, one between September to December and one between January to June. This ensures students with mobility or accessibility needs can join their classmates on field trips without barriers or additional costs.

The program will support 65 schools across Conception Bay South, Paradise, Mount Pearl, St. John’s, Torbay, the Southern Shore, Bell Island, Portugal Cove St. Philips, Pouch Cove, Avondale, and Holyrood.

Program Highlights:

• Free, fully accessible transportation for two field trips per school each year (one field trip in the fall and one in the Winter/Spring)
• Available to students who require specialized or wheelchair accessible transportation
• Program valued at 50,000 dollars annually for five years, totaling 250,000 dollars
• Safe, reliable service provided by trained Bursey’s Bus Services drivers
• Schools book in advance and include KAYLA CARES in the subject line
• Designed to increase inclusion, participation, and equitable access to extracurricular learning

“KAYLA CARES reflects our commitment to community, inclusion, and ensuring that no student is left out of important school experiences,” said Evan Bursey, Owner of Bursey’s Bus Services. “This program is our way of honouring Kayla and supporting families across the region.”
