With Black Friday sales in full swing and Christmas just around the corner, tis the season for shopping and spending.

But it can also mean more chances for criminals to strike.

The RNC is warning residents to be careful this time of year to avoid being victimized by thefts and online scams.

Canada Post suspends mail delivery in Corner Brook as weather triggers multiple TCH collisions

Corner Brook RCMPa are responding to multiple crashes on the Trans-Canada Highway between Pasadena and Corner Brook. Roads are snow covered and slippery with white out conditions.  Unnecessary travel should be avoided at this time.

Meanwhile, Canada Post has issued a red delivery service alert for Corner Brook because of inclement weather and snow. A red service alert means that it’s suspending delivery for the day and not sending our delivery agents out or recalling them. Delivery will resume once conditions improve and it’s safe to do so. The safety of our employees is our number one priority.

Alerts will be posted to Canada Post’s Delivery service alerts webpage, which lists all active and archived alerts and updates.

Residents are encouraged to clear the ice from their walkways, stairs, and driveways, to ensure safe access to the front door for mail carriers when service resumes.

Missing girl Madison Jerrett located

Police have confirmed that missing teenager Madison Jerrett has been located.

The RNC received a missing person report Tuesday, Nov. 22, shortly after 6 p.m. Jerrett had last been seen on Monday, Nov. 21, at approximately 7 p.m. in the area of McGrath Place East in St. John’s.

A group of nurses and the Department of Health are now on site in a city in India working towards recruiting more health care professionals to this province.

Province reports three COVID deaths with 17 in hospital, five in ICU

Newfoundland and Labrador is reporting three new COVID deaths in the past week.

There are currently 17 people in hospital because of the virus, with five of them in critical care. That’s up from 13 in hospital with three in critical care last week.

Rescued snowmobiler dies in hospital

A 43-year-old snowmobiler died in hospital Tuesday afternoon after he went missing overnight.

Bay St. George RCMP received the report of a missing snowmobiler around 1 a.m. He had been missing for a number of hours in an area known as Camp 38 Road, located in the back country between Stephenville and Gallants. A group who had been with the man located his snowmobile overturned on the trail, observed footprints in the snow and searched the area. The man, who was not properly dressed for the conditions, was not located.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) and Stephenville GSAR were deployed and conducted ground and aerial searches. The man was located this morning by Stephenville GSAR and was airlifted out of the woods by JRCC. He was transported to the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook for medical attention.

Police later said the man passed away in hospital.
