Labrador MP requests ministerial review into Wabush Airport shutdown
MP for Labrador, Phillip Earle, has written Minister of Transportation Steven MacKinnon, requesting a ministerial review and long-term resolution regarding the Wabush Airport shutdown.
In the letter MP Earle expressed his ‘deep frustration and concern’ about the recent shutdown of the Wabush Airport, because of a lack of firefighting and crash-rescue services.
MP Earle has requested that Transport Canada undertakes a ministerial review of how this happened, including the decision-making process, oversight mechanisms and communication between the relevant authorities.
“The people of Labrador West deserve assurance that their essential air transportation infrastructure is safeguarded through proactive planning, proper resourcing and effective coordination between all responsible agencies.”
