Employees at The Gathering Place are now members of CUPE.

Staff voted yes to become members of the union.

In total, 84 employees of the community health centre provide services, meals and an overnight shelter to people in the community who struggle with daily living.

Voting took place in June and July and was tallied this week with 89 per cent in favour of joining the union.

The new CUPE members include the Guest Support team, kitchen staff, social workers, administrative and maintenance staff, dental assistants, volunteer coordinators and boutique and guest empowerment staff. The evening staff assist with the overnight emergency shelter which is open daily from 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m.
