Ferryland RCMP stop prohibited driver, man charged with breach of release conditions

Ferryland RCMP arrested 40-year-old Jonathan Atkinson on Sunday evening, after he was stopped by police for driving while prohibited and violating the conditions of his release order.

Shortly after 5:45 on Dec. 7, police received a tip from a concerned citizen about a prohibited driver operating a vehicle in the community of Bay Bulls. Police confirmed that the man —identified as 40-year-old Jonathan Atkinson — was the subject of a release order that included an order not to operate a motor vehicle, and commenced a search in the community.

Officers patrolling Northside Road located a vehicle associated with Atkinson a short time later, and found the suspect attempting hide from police near by. Atkinson was taken into custody without incident and charged with:

  • Failure to comply with a release order – three counts,
  • Restricting or obstructing a peace officer, and
  • Driving while disqualified

He appeared in court Dec. 8 and was remanded into custody. His next appearance is scheduled for January 2026.
