Divers from Clean Harbours Initiative who initially secured to shipwreck that washed up on the local beach in Cape Ray, say they had to re-secure it over the weekend.

Shawn Bath of Clean Harbours Initiative took to Facebook to say the last piece the group had tied on had broken off and drifted ashore. He says the ship is steadily coming apart, and is asking for the publics help by donating money, to rent pieces of heavy machinery to remove the wreck from the water.

Last week Provincial Archaeologist Jamie Brake said findings indicate the shipwreck looks consistent with a 19th century vessel.

The department does not have information to indicate that the ship historically significant at this time, says Brake. He says the Provincial Archaeology Office will not stand in the way of any residents who would like to pull the wreckage on shore.

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been created to raise money for the removal, and preservation of the wreckage.
