Police investigates damage to Anglican Cemetery in Spaniard’s Bay; seeks assistance identifying driver of pickup truck

Bay Roberts RCMP is investigating damages at the Anglican Cemetery in Spaniard’s Bay and is seeking assistance from the public. The damages are believed to have occurred on Wednesday evening. A suspect vehicle has been identified. Police are seeking assistance from the public in identifying the driver.

A number of head stones, fences and an iron gate on the property were intentionally damaged.  Tire tracks were observed at the cemetery. A 2002 black Ford F-250 truck, which was found abandoned and damaged in a wooded area in Spaniard’s Bay, is suspected to have been used to commit the crime. 

The truck has been seized as part of the investigation, which is continuing at this time. Anyone who is able to identify the driver of the Ford truck, or who has any other information about this crime, is asked to contact Bay Roberts RCMP at 709-786-2118. 

RNC search for missing 14 year old female

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is searching for missing person, Kennedy O’Neil of St. John’s.

O’Neil was last seen on Wednesday (May 7), at approximately 5:30 p.m. in the area of Kenmount Road in St. John’s. The 14-year-old is 5’5” tall, 125 lbs, with long dark hair and blue eyes. O’Neil was wearing pink leggings and a black crop top when she was last seen.

Man arrested by Corner Brook RCMP for attempted robbery of cab driver

Twenty-nine-year-old Kirby Spence was arrested by RCMP in Corner Brook on Thursday. He is charged in relation to an attempted robbery that occurred on May 4.

On Saturday afternoon, Corner Brook RCMP received the report of an attempted armed robbery of a cab driver in Halfway Point. Two men, who had flagged the driver over looking for a ride, entered the back seat of the taxi cab. While the vehicle was in motion, one of the men, who was later identified as Kirby Spence, reached around the driver from the back seat of the vehicle, assaulted him and demanded money. The driver called for help on his radio and the two men exited the cab and fled on foot.

RCMP West District General Investigation Section was engaged and an arrest warrant was obtained for Spence. He was arrested at a traffic stop on Thursday and was held in custody overnight. Spence, who was wanted by RCMP in Clarenville for charges of uttering threats, attends court today and is charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Assault
  • Robbery

The second suspect has been identified and the investigation is continuing with further charges anticipated.
