Atlantic Chamber of Commerce welcomes appointment of Minister of Red Tape Reduction

News

The Atlantic Chamber of Commerce today welcomed the appointment of the Honourable Lloyd Parrott as Newfoundland and Labrador’s Minister of Red Tape Reduction.

“The creation of a dedicated Minister of Red Tape Reduction is a significant and positive step,” said Rhonda Tulk-Lane, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce. “Excessive regulation and administrative burden remain among the most persistent barriers to growth, investment, and productivity for businesses across Newfoundland and Labrador. Having a minister specifically mandated to tackle these challenges shows the government is serious about making it easier to do business in this province.”

The Atlantic Chamber of Commerce represents more than 16,000 businesses through a network of over 90 chambers of commerce and boards of trade across Atlantic Canada, including 21 chambers and boards of trade in Newfoundland and Labrador.

“Premier Wakeham has spoken about moving Newfoundland and Labrador from leading the country in red tape to leading it in red tape reduction,” Tulk-Lane said. “Assigning this responsibility to a dedicated minister gives that commitment the focus and accountability it needs. Practical actions such as reviewing outdated rules, speeding up approvals, expanding digital services, and ensuring new regulations are assessed for their impact on competitiveness can deliver real time and cost savings for businesses while protecting the public interest.”

The Atlantic Chamber of Commerce has long advocated for meaningful regulatory reform and looks forward to working with Minister Parrott and his team. The organization stands ready to share business insights and practical recommendations to help reduce unnecessary barriers and support a more competitive economy in Newfoundland and Labrador and across Atlantic Canada.
