Privacy commissioner, opposition parties slam rushed legislation on merging health authorities

The government is moving ahead with merging the four regional health authorities, but the opposition parties say the complex legislation is being rushed.

Now, Privacy Commissioner Michael Harvey has gotten involved. He wrote a letter Wednesday saying Bill 20 was introduced without meaningful consultation with his office. Harvey says that’s a violation of the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, because the bill has significant privacy implications.

Opposition MHAs spent Wednesday evening in the House urging the government to withdraw the bill to conduct meaningful consultations.
