Thursday’s record heat replaced by a cooler Friday as summer officially begins
Many areas across Newfoundland set new daily and monthly records Thursday afternoon. St John’s had its first 30° day in June on record and set a new record for the day and the month. This was due to the aforementioned “heat dome” that moved in Wednesday.

A cold front will swing through overnight and that will set the stage for a cooler Friday for the Island. Temperatures will be about 10° cooler than on Thursday. Temperatures in Labrador will also be cool on Friday, only reaching the teens.

The cooler readings in Labrador are a good thing, and that will hopefully keep the wildfire threat down and allow crews to battle the fire near Churchill Falls. Readings over the weekend and into next week will also remain on the cooler side; however, not much rain is forecast. There is some rain in the forecast for the Island early next week, but overall we are looking pretty dry.
