NTV Weather Update, Weather

As we head through the overnight hours, most of Newfoundland and Labrador will stay relatively quiet weather-wise. That’s thanks to a broad area of high pressure to our southwest and a low-pressure system parked between Labrador and Greenland. That low will throw some rain and snow at the northern Labrador coast tonight, which will slide further south as we move into Thursday.

But for much of the province, it’s a different story—think spring verging on summer.

Tonight’s Forecast:

  • Eastern Newfoundland: Skies will clear out overnight with temperatures falling to around 10°C.
  • Central Newfoundland: Clearing skies with a mild low near 13°C.
  • Western Newfoundland: Similar conditions with lows near 12°C.
  • Northern Peninsula: Clouds decreasing overnight with a chillier low near 3°C.

Thursday Highlights:

  • Eastern Newfoundland: Highs will climb into the low 20s. However, sea breezes could kick in for the eastern Avalon and northeast coast later in the day, knocking some areas back down into the low teens. I will watch this closely!
  • Central Newfoundland: A stunning day ahead with highs around 25°C and mostly sunny skies.
  • Western Newfoundland: Much of the same—sunshine and a high of 24°C.
  • Northern Peninsula: Clouds thinning through the day with a high near 10°C.

Friday Outlook:

Island-wide, temperatures stay warm—ranging from the mid-teens to low 20s. It stays dry most of the day, but rain arrives late for the Avalon and Burin Peninsulas, continuing into Friday night.

Labrador will see:

  • Eastern regions: Scattered showers.
  • Western Labrador: A mix of sun and cloud, with the chance of afternoon showers or thunderstorms and highs near 18°C.

Weekend Weather:

The weekend looks more unsettled:

  • Newfoundland: Highs in the 20s, but scattered showers are possible both Saturday and Sunday.
  • Labrador: Showers for western areas Saturday, mostly cloudy in the east Sunday, and another round of rain likely.

Early Next Week:

  • Newfoundland: We begin to dry out. Monday will bring a mix of sun and cloud with highs near 20°C.
  • Labrador: A bit cooler, with highs in the low teens and a good chance of rain in the east.
