A single-vehicle crash closed a portion of a busy downtown road late Saturday morning.
Emergency crews were called to Military Road, near Cochrane Street, shortly after 11:00 a.m. and arrived to find two significantly-damaged vehicles in the middle of the road. Reports from the scene indicate the driver of an eastbound sedan may have suffered a medical emergency, causing them to lose control of their car. The car traveled upon the sidewalk, damaging a sign post, fence, and parked minivan before crashing into a second parked vehicle. The force of the collision caused extensive damage to both vehicles, and forced them into the road.
The driver of the car was assessed on the scene by paramedics, having suffered no serious injuries. It was unknown at the time if they were transported to hospital.
Officials on the scene remarked how the incident could have been much worse had there been pedestrians walking on the sidewalk at the time, as the car traveled approximately forty metres along the sidewalk, between a fence and parked vehicles, before crashing into the back of the SUV.
Military Road was closed in the area for over an hour as the incident was investigated and while the scene was cleared.
