On Thursday afternoon, the RNC were called to a report of an assault in the downtown area of St John’s.

An individual spoke to police and advised he was assaulted by an unknown male.

The 39-year-old suspect was arrested by sheriff’s officers and held until the RNC arrived.

The male was charged with assaulting a peace officer, breach of release order and breach of probation.

He was held to appear in court.
