Wind and rain storm knocks out power for some; St. John’s closes Westerland Road due to flying debris

Heavy wind and rain have been lashing the province for much of the day.

The City of St. John’s advises that Westerland Road will be closed until further notice due to debris from high winds.

If you encounter a road or sidewalk hazard during the storm such as a downed tree, object, or a power line, it is important that you stay away from the area. Report any road or hazard to the City by calling Access St. John’s at 311 or 709-754-CITY (2489).

Downed power lines, outages or poles can be reported directly to Newfoundland Power online or by phone 1-800-474-5711.

Newfoundland Power is reporting numerous unplanned outages in places like Paddy’s Pond – Duffetts Rd,Evergreen Village (Topsail Rd-Magnolia Pl), Elizabeth Park (Outer Ring Rd-Jane Heights), Sagona Ave Area,Donovans (Topsail Rd-Corisande Dr),Danny Dr – TCH,Northern Pond Rd Area; Mount Carmel – Mitchells Brook – St. Catherine’s,Colinet – Harricott – North Harbour; and Winterland Rd – Roger’s Farm,Fox Cove – Mortier – Port au Bras,Salt Pond – Long Cove.
