The ongoing settlement process for victims of abuse at the hands of the Roman Catholic Church is about to reach an important milestone. Geoff Budden, lawyer for many of the victims abused by Catholic clergy in the province, is speaking out today to remind the public that the deadline for filing a claim in the nearly $50 million case against the Roman Catholic Episcopal Corporation of St. John’s is 5 p.m. Newfoundland time on Saturday, Sept. 30. While the legal process has dragged on for years, Budden says he hopes the finish line is in sight. It’s expected 100 or so claimants will step forward before by the Sept. 30th deadline and Budden points out they’re not all victims of Mount Cashel, or men for that matter.
NTV’s David Salter is covering the story and will have more on the NTV Evening Newshour.
