A man from this province, who was serving a life sentence for murder, has died while in federal custody. Province-wide fire ban in effect

A fire ban has been declared for the provcince in accordance with Section 99 of the Forestry Act due to elevated Fire Weather Index ratings and extensive wildfire activity in Labrador.  The ban is effective immediately for the entire province.  Permits to burn grass, brush or other materials are cancelled and fireworks and sky lanterns are banned.
