Friday will see a mostly sunny day across much of the Island, with highs in the upper single digits to lower teens. The exception will be on the West and Southwest Coast, along with the South Coast, where rain showers move onshore late in the afternoon or early in the evening. Labrador will see a decent day as well, with clouds increasing in the West during the afternoon and snow arriving late in the evening. Highs will be in the single digits above and below freezing.

The snow will fly in Labrador Friday night but will change to rain in the West by Saturday morning. Areas farther east and south will see a similar setup, while locations in the north stay predominantly snow through the event. The snow and rain will end from west to east on Saturday and wrap up along the coast by midday Sunday. Snowfall amounts will generally be in the 5-10 cm range, with areas along the coast seeing a bit less and areas in the north seeing as much as 15 cm.

Meanwhile, our Saturday on the Island will be mild, with periods of rain. Highs will be in the lower teens for most. That will be shortlived, however, as colder air sweeps in Saturday night and Sunday. Sunday will see highs of only 4 or 5ยบ on the West Coast and throughout Central. Eastern areas will start warm, but temperatures will fall during the afternoon as the cold front clears the coast. There will be more sunshine on Sunday compared to Saturday. Labrador will also see a chilly day on Sunday.

Monday and Tuesday look interesting on the Island as an area of low pressure will be passing to our southeast. At this moment it looks like there may be enough cold air around that wet snow is possible Monday night over much of the Island, including on parts of the Avalon. There is still much uncertainty in the forecast, and the details will get a bit clearer over the coming days. I can say that this shouldn’t be a major snowfall and regardless of the snow, Halloween is looking cold.
