Clarenville RCMP responds to erratic driving complaint on the TCH, arrests impaired driver
A 46-year-old Come By Chance man was arrested and charged with impaired driving after Clarenville RCMP responded to a report of a possible impaired driver Friday night.
Shortly after 8:00 p.m. on August 14, police in Clarenville received a call from a concerned resident about a possible impaired operator driving erratically, and at high rates of speed westbound along the Trans-Canada Highway entering into the Clarenville area.
Police caught up to the vehicle as the operator pulled off the highway to stop at a gas station for fuel. Officers observed clear signs of impairment and the driver of the vehicle, a 46-year-old man, failed a roadside breath test.
During a search of the car, police also located open containers of alcohol.
He was transported to the nearby Clarenville RCMP detachment where further testing confirmed his impairment at more than two and a half times the legal limit. His vehicle was seized and impounded, and his driver’s licence was suspended.
He was released from custody and will appear in Clarenville Provincial Court in November 2026 to answer to charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle and impaired operation over 80 mg%.
