Snow, rain and strong winds expected as special weather statement issued for parts of the island

News, Weather

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for parts of the northeast coast of the island, from Terra Nova to St. John’s and vicinity.

Snow is expected to begin tonight, before changing over to rain Monday morning. During that transition, there is a risk of ice pellets and freezing rain. Rain will then switch back to snow Monday evening, as very strong northwesterly winds move in.

While snowfall and rainfall amounts are not expected to be significant, the combination of strong winds and fresh snow will lead to reduced visibility in blowing snow Monday night.

Easterly winds will strengthen tonight, the weather system will impact the the northeast coast from tonight through Tuesday morning.
