Two men, 48-year-old Jamie Fudge and 49-year-old Brian Fudge, both of Botwood, were arrested Wednesday night by RCMP in Grand Falls-Windsor at a cabin area.

The pair face charges in relation to a break, enter and theft of a safe containing narcotics from Shopper’s Drug Mart in Botwood and possession of a stolen all-terrain vehicle (ATV) from a residential property in Grand Falls-Windsor.

On March 7, Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP received a report of the break and enter at Shopper’s Drug Mart where a safe containing various prescription narcotics, including fentanyl and concentrated methadone, was stolen from the property. Surveillance footage showed that the break and enter occurred at approximately 1 a.m. Three suspects arrived on the property on a side-by-side ATV which appeared to match the description of an ATV that was stolen earlier this week from a residential garage in Grand Falls-Windsor. RCMP officers from Grand Falls-Windsor Detachment and West District General Investigation Section initiated an investigation.

Yesterday, police recovered the stolen ATV, which was parked at a cabin in Pine Camps, a cabin area near Bishops Falls. Officers secured the property while a search warrant for the cabin was sought. While at the scene, Jamie and Brian Fudge returned to the cabin in a car. Jamie Fudge was arrested without incident. Brian Fudge, who was wanted for failing to attend court, exited the car and fled on foot. RCMP Police Service Dog Kane was deployed to the scene. Fudge surrendered himself to police and was taken into custody without further incident. The car was seized as part of the investigation.

Once a warrant to search the cabin was authorized, officers recovered a significant quantity of the stolen narcotic medications. Police caution that some of the narcotics, which can be lethal when ingested, may have made their way out into the community.

RCMP Forensic Identification Services is engaged with the ongoing investigation.

Both men were held in custody overnight and appear in court today.
