Updated: Serious collision sends one to hospital, closes portion of centre-city road

A collision on a busy centre-city street sent one person to hospital with serious injuries on Friday evening.

At about 7:15 p.m. first responders were called to the intersection of Empire Avenue and Suvla Street following reports of a bicyclist having been struck by an eastbound vehicle. The cyclist was taken to hospital with what were described at the time as serious injuries. Their damaged bicycle lay by the sidewalk.

The vehicle involved showed front end and windshield damage as a result of the collision.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary closed Empire Avenue in the area as they conducted an investigation into the cause of the collision.

One person has been taken to hospital with what were described as serious injuries following a collision on Empire Avenue in St. John’s.

The individual was riding a bicycle when they were struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Empire Avenue and Suvla Street.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary have closed the road in the area to facilitate their investigation.
