The remains of a Coast Guard employee who went missing off the coast of Newfoundland last month have been recovered.
The RCMP confirmed today that the remains found in Placentia Bay a week and a half ago are those of the missing employee. The Coast Guard confirmed that Jocelyn de Varennes of Quebec City went missing from the ice breaker Vincent Massey on September 16th.
De Varennes was an electrical officer on board the vessel. A search was launched immediately, but was unsuccessful. Human remains were later recovered in Placentia Bay on October 19th, and the RCMP confirmed the identity in consultation with the office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
