A warm front and an area of low pressure is going to bring rain to much of the Island Sunday into Monday, but the heaviest rain and highest wind speeds will be found along the South and Southwest coast.

The Environment and Climate Change Canada Weather Office in Gander has issued a Rainfall Warning from Sunday morning until Monday afternoon for the following areas:

  • Burgeo – Ramea
  • Channel-Port aux Basques and vicinity

Rainfall amounts are expected to be 30 to 60 mm. Rainfall rates will be intense and those heavy downpours can cause flash floods and pooling on roads. Localized folding is possible in low-lying areas.

Rainfall Warnings are issued when heavy rainfall is expected.

A Wreckhouse Wind Warning is in effect from Sunday morning until Sunday afternoon. Wind speeds in areas are forecast to peak at 100 km/h from the southeast.

Motorists, especially in high-profile vehicles, can expect hazardous driving on the highways subject to strong cross winds.

Wreckhouse Wind Warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.
