Cottle’s Island Lumber says it could close after nearly 60 years

News

A central Newfoundland sawmill says it could be forced to close after nearly 60 years, following changes to Corner Brook Pulp and Paper’s operations.

The company is shifting its newsprint production to wood chips, with its logs set to be shipped to the province’s three major sawmills. But Cottle’s Island Lumber says Corner Brook Pulp and Paper is not making good on its promise, leaving the mill’s future in jeopardy.
