Car strikes house following collision that rolls SUV; one sent to hospital

Local News, News

A late-afternoon collision in the west end of St. John’s saw one vehicle strike a house and a second vehicle wind up on its side.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Columbus Drive and Mundy Pond Road at about 4:15 p.m. Monday afternoon. Emergency crews arrived to find an SUV on its side in the roadway and a sedan down a grassy embankment. Both vehicles sustained significant damage. The car came to rest after striking the foundation of a nearby home. The driver of that vehicle was taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be serious.

The home also sustained some structural damage as a result of the crash.

Mundy Pond Road was closed between Columbus Avenue and Anthony Avenue, and traffic was slowed through the busy intersection for over an hour as the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary investigated and until the damaged vehicles could be removed.

It was the second collision in the west end of St. John’s on Monday afternoon. Shortly before 1:30 p.m. a t-bone collision at the intersection of Topsail Road and Cowan Avenue caused significant damage and sent three people to hospital.
