Bail hearing Friday for accused arsonist

The man suspected of igniting three of fires in St. John’s will find out at the end of the week if he’ll get out of jail. Caleb Boland-Pelkey, 20, had his bail hearing begin today in provincial court. The judge will render a decision Friday.

Boland-Pelkey is charged with three counts of arson with disregard for human life. They relate to brush fires he reportedly ignited near the Delta Hotel, Hilton Gardens Hotel and St. John’s City Hall, all in the downtown area on Aug. 12-13. He’s also facing three regulatory charges from the provincial forestry act. at $50,000 each, his fine would total $150,000 if found guilty.
