No serious injuries following collision at west-end intersection

Local News, News

A collision Sunday evening at one of St. John’s’ most dangerous intersections caused considerable damage to two vehicles, but resulted in no serious injuries.

Shortly before 10:00 p.m. emergency crews were called to the intersection of Topsail Road and Cowan Avenue following the collision. One vehicle, following the crash, rolled backwards and onto a nearby sidewalk. The drivers of both vehicles, who were the only occupants involved, were assessed by paramedics. No serious injuries were reported.

Personnel with the City of St. John’s were called to deal with engine oil that had spilled onto the roadway and been carried a distance down Topsail Road by passing cars.

The crash was the second collision at that intersection in just under a week. Last Monday afternoon a two-vehicle crash also caused significant damage, and sent three people to hospital. In a study released by the City of St. John’s in 2023, the intersection of Topsail Road and Cowan Avenue made the top ten list of most collisions for the number of vehicles passing through.
