The province’s Privacy Commissioner is calling on the government to change the law to restore transparency. That’s after he lost a court of appeal ruling on whether he had the right to review documents that government claims are subject to lawyer-client privilege. Earlier this month the Newfoundland and Labrador Court of Appeal ruled that the privacy commissioner will no longer be able to demand to see certain records.
Michael Harvey says when government claims that records are subject to lawyer-client privilege, he needs to be able to review them to make sure the claim is valid. He’s now calling on government to fix this with a legislative amendment.

NTV’s David Salter is covering the story and will have more at 6.
