Sun and cloud returns to Newfoundland Thursday while moderate snow moves across Labrador

Weather

Ryan Harding, NTV Weather Centre

Thursday remains mainly quiet across Newfoundland with the island as a whole finishing with clear skies and a sunset under modestly warmer temperatures. Meanwhile, a weak low-pressure system moves across Labrador dropping 3-5 cm from Thursday afternoon to end of day Friday.

There are some light flurries to get through first thing Thursday morning from the West Coast up into the Northern Peninsula. Those totals are limited to 1-3 cm as they clear by the 9 am mark.

Then, it’s off to the races for a day of sun and cloud and worst and clear skies at best. A pocket of cloud looks to briefly settle over the Avalon through the afternoon. However, by sunset the island as a whole is looking at wide open skies thanks to a high-pressure system sitting over Newfoundland.

Thursday’s warming day-time highs for Newfoundland

As Thursday rolls on, the winds look to shift from the southwest, causing a modest warm up with day-time highs *mostly* breaking the zero degree mark.

Snow moves across Labrador Thursday in Friday

Despite warming temperatures in Labrador as well, it wont break the freezing point quick enough to keep the snow away.

Snow looks to enter Labrador West late Thursday afternoon and spend the evening and overnight reaching across The Big Land.

The highest totals of around 5 cm are expected in Labrador City and Churchill Falls while those totals decrease as the system breaks apart thanks to some south gusting wind along it’s journey.
