Snow, ice and rain promises messy Thursday across Newfoundland and Labrador
Ryan Harding, NTV Weather Centre
There’s something for everyone Thursday. In most cases, in fact, a bit of everything. The latest low-pressure system sees snow transitioning to ice, freezing rain and rain while temperatures, and wind direction, fluctuate throughout the day.

The alerts, and varying effects, are shown above. Still, most regions in Newfoundland will have at least a touch of snow, freezing rain and rain. The timelines for the transition lay in the hands of the wind direction and accompanying temperatures. The temperature is going to rise across the province as the wind spends the day shifting south, warming conditions along the way.

Below you can see by the radar some anticipated times of transition periods that line up with the above wind and temperature manipulation. Meanwhile, it’s snow start to finish for Labrador, with the exception of Red Bay to L’anse-au-Loup seeing some final moments of freezing rain.

St. John’s, Metro and Avalon forecasted for freezing rain and drizzle
The Metro region is getting a bit of a lucky break on this one. The wind directions bring not just a warm up, but help guide the snow away. Thursday is likely to be a gross day, but there will be no shoveling. Just some freezing rain around the noon hour followed by drizzle and an evening shower.
