Moderate snow and rain kicks off otherwise calm Tuesday for Newfoundland and Labrador

Some overnight snow passes across Newfoundland and Labrador into Tuesday, however, a south wind warming temperatures behind it has conditions transitioning into rain for a likely messy morning commute in the Metro region.

5-10 cm tops expected for Newfoundland into Tuesday morning

When its all said and done, 5 cm seems to be a pretty good average across most regions including Central, the Bonavista and Avalon Peninsula. There are a few pockets where picking up a few extra to push towards 10 cm is possible.

Along the southern portion of the island, its all relatively short lived as the incoming south wind fuels warmer temperatures and an early transition into rain. Between 7:30 am and 8:30 am, the metro region will likely experience that exact transition. Meanwhile, the Burin Peninsula and southern portion of the Avalon can anticipate that transition overnight.

By late morning, the system has passed and Newfoundland and Labrador will be under a blanket of cloud with some sunny breaks here and there.

5 cm the average across Central Newfoundland into Tuesday

The snow does it’s accumulation overnight for Grand Falls-Windsor, but takes a little longer through Tuesday morning to fully leave the Central region. All in all, a good 5 cm looks to fall before final flurries trickle off leaving the rest of Tuesday to be spend under cloud and warming temperatures.

The wind does shift eventually from the northwest, cooling things back down into the evening.

Overnight snow and rain replaced by cloud and fog along west and north coast of Newfoundland Tuesday

The system looks to be behind this portion of the island by Tuesday morning. The odd sunny break is likely through Tuesday afternoon. Day time highs are limited due to the northwest wind taking over earlier comparatively. Coastal fog looks to set in Tuesday evening as well.

Final flurries fall across Labrador Tuesday before sun and cloud

There are a few flurries left kicking around The Big Land Tuesday. Specifically, a light touchdown in Makkovik mid-morning and in Cartwright mid-afternoon.

Other than that, it’s clearing skies. The same northwest wind clearing those skies will be dropping temperatures back below zero, for Western Labrador, back into the double digits.
