Cold temperatures return across Newfoundland and Labrador Wednesday
Ryan Harding, NTV Weather Centre
That warm, damp, south wind is being replaced throughout the day across the province with the return of the cooler west winds dropping temperatures back below zero and bringing with it those biting windchills.

Bitter cold returns to Newfoundland and Labrador Wednesday
By sunrise, Labrador and the western side of the island is already back below the freezing mark and experiencing strong west wind gusts. It takes the day, but those cooler temperatures stretch across the island as a whole. By sundown that wind will be felt province-wide.

Rain finishes in Newfoundland by Wednesday afternoon
The west wind is pushing the final touches of rain across the island while cooling the temperatures behind it. It looks as though the temperatures hang above zero long enough to see the system finish as simply rain. However, there may be some moments on the back end that result in wet snow or some freezing rain despite how it looks on the radar.
The remaining to fall fit into the 5-15 mmm range with a little extra anticipated for the western side of the Burin Peninsula and the Connaigre Peninsula, this is due to the strong south wind holding over the Avalon, stalling the rain over the previously mentioned regions. This also results in a slightly lower total for the north side of the Avalon.

Rainfall totals from 12 am Wednesday through the afternoon

Afternoon showers for Metro and Avalon Wednesday
It takes until the suppertime hour for the temperatures to complete drop out on the Avalon. Therefore, like the regions before it, despite how the radar shows this is likely to fall as simply rain. You may see some wet snow or freezing rain on the western side of the South Avalon.

West Coast sees light flurries Wednesday
It’s consistent but it is light. With the temperature below zero to start the day, that west wind off the water brings in some dampness that will show up for 1-3 cm with a window between 2 and 3 pm for a little heavier snowfall rate. The light flurries do last into the evening.

Sunny breaks to be found across Newfoundland and Labrador Wednesday
Aside from these moments of weather, there is some sun and cloud to be found. It’s just all about the wind and the temperatures!
