Two people were sent to hospital Sunday afternoon following a collision on the Outer Ring Road.
Emergency crews were called to the westbound lanes of the highway, approaching Team Gushue Highway, at about noon on Sunday afternoon. The driver of an SUV had rear-ended a traffic control vehicle that was on the roadway as workers were present. The force of the collision pushed the pickup truck roughly ten metres forwards and caused extensive damage.
The driver of the SUV, who was the lone occupant, and a passenger in the pickup truck were both taken to hospital. Their injuries were described as non life-threatening.
Accident reconstructionists with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary were called to the scene to aid in the investigation. Personnel with Occupational Health and Safety have also been notified.
Traffic in the westbound lanes of the highway was slowed for close to three hours as police investigated and as the scene was cleared.
