THIS ALERT HAS BEEN ENDED

The Special Weather Statement that was in effect for just the Avalon and Burin Peninsulas has been expanded to include the Bonavista Peninsula, Clarenville and vicinity and Terra Nova.

The alerts from Environment Canada reads as follows:

Current details: A wintry mix of snow and ice pellets is expected.

Total snow and ice pellet accumulations: 10 to 15 cm.

Time span: this evening until Saturday morning.

Remarks: Precipitation will begin as snow and ice pellets, transitioning to periods of rain, with a risk of freezing rain, over the Burin and Avalon Peninsula. The snow and ice pellets may accumulate rapidly for a couple of hours over some locations.

Surfaces such as roadways, walkways, and parking lots could become slippery and difficult to navigate. If you are planning travel, allow for extra time to reach your destination.

There is a bit more detail to the forecast than the alert suggests, and you can find my latest thoughts in the Weather Centre or on the home page!
