Weekend snow forces Monday morning closures

There has been significant snowfall over the last week for the eastern portion of the island, capped off by a winter storm Saturday into Sunday. While people and businesses dig out from under the snow, many services and facilities have announced they will not be operating Monday morning.

All facilities operated by the City of St. John’s will be closed for the day. Mount Pearl city buildings will be closed Monday morning, with an update at noon. Metrobus will not be operating this morning, with an update coming around noon. NLC stores in the metro area will be closed this morning with an update at noon. MUN’s St. John’s, Marine Institute, and Signal Hill campuses, including the Child Care Centre, will be closed for the day. K-12 schools are already on a scheduled mid-winter break, so no snow day is necessary.

The City of St. John’s is not declaring a state of emergency, but encourage residents to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary. Those who do have to travel are asked to use extreme caution.

The Town of Paradise is also asking residents to limit travel where possible both in the Town and throughout the region. all Town facilities, including the Town Hall and Paradise Double Ice Complex, are closed for the full day on Monday, February 23, 2026.
