St. John’s demonstrators demand accountability for human rights violations in Iran
A crowd filled the stairs leading up to St. John’s City Hall on Saturday afternoon, the public rally was in solidarity with the people of Iran, calling for an end to government repression.
Peaceful protesters said the demonstration in downtown St. John’s was meant to draw attention to ongoing repression, and systemic human rights violations taking place in Iran. It was in fact part of a larger movement across the globe on Saturday, as thousands gathered in Toronto, Los Angeles, New York and beyond.
‘Members of the Iranian community and allies in Newfoundland and Labrador will stand together to call for accountability, justice, and the protection of basic freedoms. At a time when Iranian citizens continue to face severe consequences for demanding dignity and democratic rights, public awareness and international attention remain critical.’
