Sheshatshiu RCMP arrests three after residential search results in seizure of weapons, vehicle

Justice, News

Sheshatshiu RCMP arrested three people on Monday after a search of a residence resulted in the seizure of a firearm and other weapons. A 52-year-old woman faces eight charges including unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of property obtained by crime, and a 39-year-old man has been charged with failing to comply with his release order. Police also arrested a 32-year-old man who was the subject of an active warrant.

Around 1:00 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 29, an officer at the Sheshatshiu detachment noticed that a vehicle seized the previous day had been removed from the lot without proper authorization. A review of surveillance video showed an unknown male using a second set of keys to steal the pickup truck.

Officers with the Labrador District General Investigation Section (GIS) located the stolen truck several hours later at the owner’s residence in North West River. A search warrant was obtained by Sheshatshiu RCMP and executed with the assistance of GIS, Police Dog Services and Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP. In addition to recovering the pickup truck, police also seized an improperly stored rifle, ammunition and prohibited weapons.

The owner of the vehicle, 52-year-old Bobbi Jo Campbell, and 39-year-old Jonathan Chevrier-Icebound were located a short time later traveling by car along Route 520. A traffic stop was conducted, and the pair were arrested.

Campbell appeared in court yesterday on eight charges including:

  • Obstruction of a peace officer
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited device – 2 counts
  • Possession of stolen property over $5, 000
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon – 2 counts
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm

She was released from custody with conditions.

Chevrier-Icebound is charged with failure to comply with a release order.

In addition, 32-year-old Jonathon Learning was found inside of the home during the search, and was taken into custody in relation to an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

The investigation is ongoing.
