Power restored to all customers after massive outage Friday evening

News

Newfoundland Power’s Outage Centre is showing that there are are no known outages impacting 25 customers or more as of Saturday morning.

it comes after a trip on the Labrador-Island transmission link knocked out power for 70,000 customers across the island Friday evening.

“A trip on the Labrador-Island Link transmission line has caused power interruptions to Newfoundland Power customers in several areas on the island,” Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro posted on social media. “These outages should be brief and restoration is underway for many customers.”

According to Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro’s website these types of outages occur roughly 5-8 times a year on the island part of the province, with different blocks of customers being affected each time. They rarely last more than 30 minutes.
