Motorcycle crash sends one person to hospital

Local News, News

A motorcycle crash in the west end of St. John’s late Wednesday morning has sent one person to hospital with serious injuries.

Shortly before 11:45 a.m. emergency crews were called to a portion of Topsail Road between Brookfield Road and Burgeo Street. The driver of a westbound motorcycle lost control of their vehicle, causing the bike to crash into the back of a Canada Post delivery truck. The truck was stopped in the curb lane with its hazard lights flashing.

The individual was taken to hospital with injuries reported as serious, but not believed to be life-threatening. The driver of the truck was not injured.

Accident investigators with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) arrived on scene to investigate the crash, measuring and photographing the scene, including skid marks several dozen metres long.

The westbound lanes of Topsail Road were closed, and eastbound traffic was reduced to one lane, as personnel worked.

One driver was ticketed after driving around a police roadblock and down the closed road. The RNC reminds motorists to pay attention to lane and road closures and to obey officers directing traffic.
