Gushue remains unbeaten at Olympic curling trials in Halifax
Brad Gushue’s St. John’s-based rink remains unbeaten at the Canadian Curling Trials.
The veteran skip scored two in the eighth end to take the 4-2 lead over Calgary’s Kevin Koe, and ended up with a 5-3 win to improve to 2-0 at the trials. The winner, of course, represents Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.
It was big weekend for the Gushue rink, which features third Mark Nichols, second/vice-skip Brendan Bottcher and lead Geoff Walker. They opened the event with a lopsided 11-5 on Saturday.
With his retirement from competitive curling looming, Gushue,, wearing his familiar orange uniform, returned to the city where he won his first Olympic trials back in 2005. He’s clearly the fan favorite as the east coast fans are behind the 45-year-old skip.
Team Gushue is back in action today with two games on tap.
