Gander RCMP responds to disturbance call, man charged with uttering threats and mischief

Justice, News

Gander RCMP is investigating after responding to a disturbance in progress at a remote cabin near Glenwood early Thursday morning. A 38-year-old man was arrested and faces criminal charges, with additional arrests possible as the investigation continues.

At approximately 3:41 a.m. on Jan. 1, police responded to reports of a disturbance at a cabin on Salmon Pond Access Road in the Glenwood area. Police were told that multiple people at the cabin had been assaulted and a group of suspects had departed on snowmobiles after threating to light the structure on fire.

Due to heavy snowfall amounts in the region, RCMP officers engaged volunteers with Bonavista Bay Search and Rescue for assistance accessing the remote cabin. Police arrived on scene to find multiple assault victims, each suffering from injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

Gander RCMP arrested 38-year-old Robert Coles at a nearby cabin. Coles was transported to the Gander detachment and held in custody overnight to appear before the courts today. He faces charges under the Criminal Code including uttering threats and mischief.

The investigation continues, and additional arrests and charges are possible.
