Forteau RCMP arrests impaired driver after stopping speeder on the Trans-Labrador Highway
Forteau RCMP arrested a 26-year-old L’Anse-au-Loup man yesterday evening after officers pulled a vehicle over for speeding and discovered that the driver was also impaired.
Just after 4:30 p.m. on August 17, police on patrol along the Trans-Labrador Highway (Route 510) observed a pick-up truck travelling at high speeds, up to 120 km/hr in an 80 km/hr zone.
A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver was identified as operating the vehicle with a suspended licence. The officer observed signs of impairment and a roadside breath test was failed.
The driver – a 26-year-old man – was arrested for impaired operation and transported to the Forteau RCMP detachment, where he provided breath samples that were more three times the legal limit.
His vehicle was seized and impounded. He was also ticketed under the Highway Traffic Act for operating his vehicle with a suspended licence.
He was released from police custody and will appear in court in late September 2026 to answer to charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle and impaired operation over 80 mg%. He’ll also answer to previous Criminal Code impaired driving charges laid back in July 2026.
