Early-morning fire in downtown St. John’s displaces several
An early-morning fire in downtown St. John’s caused significant damage to a home and has displaced several people.
At about 6:20 a.m. firefighters were called to the semi-attached home on Alexander Street. Crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the home. Mike Hall, Platoon Chief with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department said they originally thought several people were trapped in the home, however all five people inside at the time managed to escape on their own, some with only minor injuries.
Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the fire, and spent the next while ensuring no hot spots remained. Unfortunately, a cat was located deceased inside.
The residents of the home have been displaced as a result of the fire.
