CFS-NL calls for investigation into racism at MUN following resignation of Vice Provost

Representatives from the Canadian Federal of Students say on Dec. 23, Dr. Dolores Mullings, Vice Provost EDI-AR at Memorial University, announced her early resignation from her role as part of Memorial’s senior administration.

She expressed in an interview with The Independent that she faced challenges working with upper administration at MUN, who often excluded her from decision-making spaces, disregarding the importance of her work.

“Students have seen first-hand how Memorial administration has failed for years to adequately address issues of equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism,” said CFS-NL Chairperson Nicolas Keough. “However, to see a member of the upper administration, tasked with addressing these issues, face racism and exclusion herself points to a larger issue within the administration that must be dealt with immediately.”

It was also noted within the article that new MUN President Dr. Janet Morrison did not reach out to meet with Dr. Mullings or her office within the first 6 months of her term. “Dr. Morrison neglecting the importance of this portfolio continues the pattern of MUN’s administration being out-of-touch with the needs of students,” said Keough. “We need a President who prioritizes EDI-AR, not one who sees it as an afterthought.”
