Annual World Oceans Day family event at the Marine Institute on Saturday

Nature, News

To celebrate World Oceans Day, there will be a free, family-friendly event at the Marine Institute in St. John’s on Saturday.

The event takes place from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Learn about the importance of protecting our oceans and marine life while participating in fun activities, including ocean-themed crafts, touch tanks, pilot an underwater robot, tour a fisheries patrol vessel and much more.

From June 1-8, numerous virtual activities will highlight citizen science, marine species and local ocean heroes through songs, recitations, and spectacular coastal drone footage. Find all the information you need via the World Oceans Day N.L. Facebook page or on Instagram.

The events are presented by the Newfoundland and Labrador World Oceans Day Committee, which includes volunteers from Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, the Fish, Food and Allied Workers Union and the Marine Institute of Memorial University.
